The Lincoln Public Schools Board of Education voted Jan. 14 to approve a contract amendment appointing Dr. John Sreda as interim superintendent for an 18-month term.
Board member Kathy Scott moved to approve the human-resources agenda item removing the superintendent contract amendment from consent for discussion and to approve the amendment; the motion was seconded. During the discussion several board members praised Sreda’s experience and community reputation. Board member Barb Danek said she had worked with Sreda on a committee and called his performance "excellent." Board member Piyush Srivastava said he had received positive emails and comments from community members about Sreda’s past work.
Kathy Scott noted the interim term is 18 months to allow the board time to conduct a superintendent search or make a permanent selection during that period. The board also said Sreda would resign his current civic-engagement role within the district as part of taking the interim post and that the contract language includes compensation for the additional duties.
Dr. John Sreda addressed the board and said he appreciated the support and viewed the interim period as an opportunity to provide continuity. "The 18 month interim provides us with an opportunity to establish some consistency and visibility in the interim superintendent role going forward," he said. He also referenced the district's strategic plan as the work the leadership will continue to target.
Laura conducted a roll-call vote; the motion passed with all present board members voting yes. The transcript records no formal amendments to the contract during the public discussion. The board’s action follows the retirement of the prior superintendent in December and is intended to provide leadership stability while the board considers next steps.
