Helen Hughes re-elected chair and Dr. Unruh chosen vice chair of Houston County Board of Education

Board attorney Billy Jerrells opened nominations under board policy BBAA and called for nominations for chair and vice chair. A motion that Helen Hughes remain chair was moved by Mr. Gerald and carried by a raise of hands. Dr. Unruh was nominated and approved as vice chair in a separate motion; the board chair then thanked members for the support.
"It's very humbling, and it's one of the greatest honors I've ever had to serve as the chair," Hughes told her fellow board members after the vote.
During the meeting Hughes also welcomed the board's newest member, Clyde Jackson, who was introduced during the earlier guest-recognition portion of the agenda.
No recorded roll-call tally was entered on the reorganization motions in the meeting transcript; nominations and approvals were conducted by voice and show of hands as the board followed its reorganization process.
