Board approves letter supporting River Street Networks’ federal broadband funding bid

River Street Networks asked the Patrick County Board of Supervisors for a letter of support to strengthen the company’s application for federal broadband funding, and the board voted to provide it.
Zach Church, director of engineering for River Street Networks, described the project as nearly a $50 million build designed to pass roughly 8,800 locations (the company’s current design figure). He said roughly 1,540 locations in Patrick County could qualify for federal BEAD funding and that a county letter of support could swing an application’s score by nine or ten points.
“We estimate there to be about 1,540 locations that would qualify for BEAD funding inside of Patrick County,” Church said. He described an active construction schedule with coordination with AEP and site‑specific design updates posted for residents to track.
Following the presentation a supervisor moved for a letter of support; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote with the following recorded: “Mister Marshall: Aye. Mister Kendrick: Aye. Mister Perry: Aye. Mister Ogilby: Aye. [Chair]: Aye.” The board directed staff to prepare the letter for signature.
What’s next: The county will provide a letter of support to River Street Networks to include with the company’s federal funding application.
