The Papillion La Vista Community Schools Board of Education on Jan. 13 approved a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $5,365,753 from Sampson Construction to renovate Papillion La Vista High School’s auditorium and fine-arts classrooms and to add a turf PE classroom north of the main competition gym.
The project scope includes renovation of the auditorium and adjacent fine-arts classroom areas, added storage behind the theater and a new turf classroom area. Assistant Superintendent for Business Services Brett Richards told the board the GMP sits at the upper end of the district’s budget but that staff recommended approval.
The board also delegated authority to district leadership to execute construction contracts and change orders and to take actions necessary to complete the project. The motion to approve the construction and the GMP was made by Board member Brian Lotus and seconded by Board member Marcus Madler; the roll call vote was unanimous in favor.
Construction is scheduled to begin after the school year ends and, if the schedule holds, to finish by the end of 2025. Richards said the district expects the work to proceed quickly once it begins.
The board’s vote follows prior presentations on the project from the district’s consultant team. The board did not specify additional financing details in the meeting record.
Timeline and next steps: superintendent or designee will sign contracts and manage change orders; construction will start after school dismissal and work toward a 2025 completion date.
