Elementary student asks board for 30‑minute lunches at Middleton schools

During public comment at the Jan. 13 Middleton‑Cross Plains Area Board of Education meeting, elementary student Lila Kladnitsky asked the board to adopt a 30‑minute lunch period at district schools. Lila said longer lunches would help students learn better with full stomachs, allow for unhurried eating and protect recess time.
Lila suggested options for implementation, including allowing students to be excused at their normal dismissal time or to stay an extra five to ten minutes to finish lunch. Board chair Sheila Hibner thanked Lila for her advocacy and for speaking to the board during public comment.
