Kershaw County Council on Jan. 14 adopted a proclamation honoring the North Central High School girls volleyball program for winning the 2024 Class AA state championship. The council also recognized the JV team’s undefeated season and gave a public ceremony for players, coaches and supporters.
Councilman Cato moved to adopt the proclamation and Councilman Tucker seconded. Speakers at the meeting highlighted the teams’ records — the varsity team finished 33–0–1 and the JV team went 19–0 — and praised coaches Andy Johnson and Nikki Gainey. Council members congratulated players and parents and the clerk recorded the proclamation vote as unanimous among those present.
Why it matters: the proclamation publicly recognizes student-athlete achievement within Kershaw County and gives formal county acknowledgment to school teams and coaches.
Next steps: council members invited the teams forward for photos and congratulatory remarks; no additional county action was requested.
