Students showcase 3D printing, SGA reports academic and extracurricular activity; superintendent outlines events and surveys

Middle school students from the I-Team presented 3D-printed gifts to the board and described using Tinkercad and the middle school library printers to design and produce the items.
“Design them on Tinkercad and printed them using the 3 d printers in the middle school library,” a student said, describing the process. The students said their program also runs a school store and participates in manufacturing and entrepreneurship activities.
High school student government representative Zoe delivered an activities report for Tuesday, Jan. 14, listing upcoming academic, arts and athletics events. She said choir students attended the Northampton County Choir Festival and that Ryan Paxad will audition for regional choir. She also reported the varsity wrestling team finished 23rd out of 176 teams at a University of Delaware tournament, noting senior Jackson Albert placed seventh and sophomore Carter Chunko placed sixth. Zoe announced TV team participation in WLVT’s Scholastic Scrimmage; the first Saucon Valley match will air at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 26.
Superintendent Miss Velasquez briefed the board on district events and outreach. She said Rachel's Challenge will return for a repeat community event on Jan. 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium with a student program the following day for middle- and high-school students. Velasquez also said a community survey on the elementary playground will be distributed to staff, students and community members beginning the next day to collect feedback.
Velasquez introduced the district’s new mascot and described a naming contest: classrooms will submit suggestions, the top five names will be posted for community voting next month, and the winning name will be unveiled at a late-month basketball game.
The board also heard from Dr. Kasky, introduced as the interim high school principal. Kasky said he is honored to serve and praised teachers and assistant staff for their support during his first week and two days on the job.
Board members thanked volunteers and staff, recognized the I-Team and referenced the upcoming middle- and high-school musical productions scheduled at the end of January and in April.
