At the meeting, Boykin said he had decided to step down after more than three decades of service: "I've decided to step down on the board... I've enjoyed serving with my colleagues," he said, adding he planned to spend more time with family and friends. Board members thanked him for his leadership and mentorship to newer members.
A proclamation read aloud at the meeting states Boykin was first elected in 1993, subsequently re-elected to additional four-year terms, and retired from his position with the Portage County Department of Job and Family Services in December 2024. The board recorded a roll-call vote accepting his resignation; the clerk noted the resignation's effective date as Jan. 31, 2025.
The board did not announce a replacement at the meeting; administrative staff and board leadership indicated follow-up steps for filling the vacancy would follow the district's established procedures.
