The Bloomington City Council on Jan. 13 approved a resolution designating the 1600 block of Illinois Street as Doctor Charles E. Morris Street in honor of the late educator and longtime community leader.
Mayor Boca Malombwe read the proclamation and introduced members of the Morris family, who accepted the city’s recognition. David Morris and Jean Morris spoke at the meeting; Jean Morris thanked the council and said her late husband would be pleased by the tribute. "We are deeply honored by this tribute to Charles," Jean Morris said.
Council members moved to adopt the resolution with a friendly amendment correcting the ward number referenced in the document. The motion to accept the resolution as amended passed with no nays announced. City staff said a permanent street sign will be installed in the spring when weather permits and a formal on-site event will follow.
