Council approves $40,179 replacement of sludge pump at Ray Bullard plant

The West Melbourne City Council voted 7-0 on Jan. 14 to approve purchase and installation of a replacement sludge pump for the Ray Bullard Water Reclamation Facility at a cost of $40,179.
Public works/wastewater staff member Mark Picariello told the council the work would replace the second of three identical sludge pumps serving the belt filter press on the plant’s east side. The city budgeted $41,000 for the replacement, and Picariello said the center pump had already been replaced; the remaining east/west pumps were being completed as part of routine maintenance.
Councilmembers asked how many pumps exist in the system and the pump’s expected service life; Picariello said there are three pumps (east, west and center), the center pump had been replaced previously, and the unit being replaced dated to 2006.
The motion to approve the expenditure was made by Deputy Mayor Pat Bentley and seconded by Mister Frampus; the motion passed 7-0.
