District leaders described a multi-pronged response to staff and family needs after the Eden Fire and accepted a board motion to publish a curated web page of vetted community resources and donation channels.
Wendy and cabinet members reviewed outreach and support measures: a temporary administrative leave bank (up to 10 administrative days with pay) for staff who lost homes, coordination with labor unions on a catastrophic leave bank, targeted personal outreach to impacted families, and twice-daily district updates at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Staff said custodial and maintenance crews were on campuses and that the district would prepare laptop and device pickup logistics for displaced students.
The board voted to direct staff to create a central web page listing vetted GoFundMe pages, Amazon wish lists and other verified donation channels for staff and families. The district said it would check with unions and staff to ensure family and staff permission before publishing names or links and that it would list a process for people to request inclusion on the list.
Community partners and student groups described organizing large volunteer efforts and donation drives. Reverend (Pastor) Kyle Sears said his church would serve as a transparent receiving point for donated goods and would provide bookkeeping and distribution to avoid privacy or trust issues with ad hoc pages. Student leaders from La Cañada High School’s Filipino Club said they had organized volunteer drives and a central website (edenfirerelief.org) and had mobilized hundreds of student volunteers.
Wendy told the board the district had catalogued more than 1,000 family survey responses requesting counseling or check-ins and that the district would prioritize outreach to those families rated highest in need.
The board approved the motion to have staff create and maintain the district resource web page and to publish vetted links for staff GoFundMe pages and other donation or volunteer avenues; the motion passed by voice vote.
