Board hears plan for new Taylor training facility; boosters asked to raise $400,000

Superintendent Dr. Allen outlined plans at the Jan. 14 meeting for a new athletic training facility adjacent to the existing Bayon practice area near East Miami River Road, telling the Three Rivers Local School District Board of Education the board and boosters have discussed the project for several years.
The district’s preliminary estimate, provided to the board by Greg Wise, puts the project cost at approximately $1,330,640. The superintendent said boosters should be asked to raise a minimum of $400,000 toward construction. A subcommittee will be formed consisting of two board members, school administrators and booster representatives to develop plans, renderings and fundraising materials for potential donors.
Dr. Allen emphasized that no construction will begin until a final design is agreed upon, required funds are raised and the board votes to authorize construction. The board discussed the project’s fundraising goal, possible cost fluctuations and the need for renderings and donor materials. One board member said the subcommittee would seek consensus on the facility design before any construction vote.
Board members requested the subcommittee provide updates and preliminary design materials so the board can review pledged funds and renderings in a formal meeting before any contract award or construction start.
