Morgan Township public-works staff reported that two recent snow-and-ice events consumed close to 100 tons of road salt and asked trustees to authorize replenishment and vehicle repairs.
The roads representative said the crew used nearly 100 tons of salt during two significant storms and requested a purchase order to Morton Salt for $15,000 to buy 150 tons to replenish supplies; trustees moved, seconded and approved the PO. Staff also reported that two salt trucks showed spring damage — one with a broken leaf spring and another with a cracked spring — and that a local vendor (Zubin Spring) expects to inspect and provide repair estimates this week.
The roads representative said he will seek post-meeting approval for repair PO amounts once estimates arrive and asked trustees whether they preferred approval now or to return with costs; trustees indicated they could approve after estimates are presented.
Staff also noted that the annual Township Highway System mileage certification from the county engineers has arrived and needs signatures from all trustees by Feb. 14.
