Commission members attend Tree Commission Academy; staff update on certifications and new hire progress

Commissioners noted the academy materials had been updated and that the agency had revised the syllabus since earlier versions.
On staffing and certifications, staff reported that a recently hired crew member had registered for the ISA certified arborist preparatory class and would need to sign up for the certification exam. Staff said another crew member, Mike, was a short distance (about a quarter-hour away) from accumulating the continuing education units (CEUs) required to recertify in June; a third staff member (Jack) still has a year to complete CEU requirements.
The commission took the updates as informational and planned to report training outcomes at future meetings.
