Mike Elam was elected chair of the St. Charles County Council Monday, Jan. 13, winning a 4-3 roll-call vote; Matt Swanson was elected vice chair unanimously.
The nominations and votes took place at the start of the council's meeting. Council members nominated Elam and Joe Bridal (recorded elsewhere in the transcript as a nominee); the council then voted on each nominee. The roll call for chair produced four votes for Elam (Councilman Swanson, Councilman Elam, Councilman Hollander and Councilman Hammond) and three votes against (Councilman Brazzell, Councilwoman York and Councilman Baker), electing Elam as chair.
The council subsequently nominated Matt Swanson for vice chair. A roll call recorded affirmative votes from all members present (Councilman Elam, Councilman Hollander, Councilman Hammond, Councilwoman York, Councilman Baker, Councilman Swanson and Councilman Brazzell), making Swanson vice chair.
The changes in leadership were carried out during the meeting before the evening's business continued.
The council scheduled committee and agenda items under the new leadership for the remainder of the session.
