Talbot County council closes two unused road segments in Cordova and agrees to convey land to private owner

The Talbot County Council voted to close two county road segments—identified as Wally's Way and Bethany Lane—and to authorize conveyance of the underlying county-owned strips to Chamberlain LLC for no monetary consideration.
County staff said the two 50-foot-wide right-of-way strips bisect a parcel in Cordova previously operated as the Bethany House group home. The property owner asked the county to close and convey the strips so the owner can consolidate the parcel; county staff reported it does not need to maintain those roads and that there is no county objection to the conveyance.
Zach Smith, speaking for Chamberlain LLC, told the council the former institutional use that produced the dedicated right-of-way has ended and the strips now serve only the single private property. “There’s no reason why the taxpayer should be paying to maintain these roads that only serve this one property,” Smith said.
The public hearing produced no opposition. The council voted aye on the resolution. The clerk recorded votes by President Callahan and Council members Stepp, Lesher, Milkey and Hayes.
The resolution directs staff to accept a deed from Chamberlain LLC consistent with the conveyance described in the resolution and to complete the conveyance process; no purchase price was assigned in the resolution.
