Kewaunee County administrator reports staffing gaps in jailer/dispatcher and human services roles

Kroll said the sheriff’s department currently has two open jailer/dispatcher positions and two people in training who are not yet able to work independently, requiring remaining staff to cover overtime. ‘‘Not a crisis state at this point, but we need to get people back in those positions as quickly as we can,’’ Kroll said. He described ongoing steps including promotions, billboard recruitment, and meetings with sheriff’s department leadership.
Kroll also said the human services department has openings for billing positions and a social worker. He added that applications have generally increased after a period of low applicant volume, but that jailer/dispatcher openings remain difficult to fill. Kroll said the administration will return to the board if it recommends changing strategy or reallocating resources to address recruitment challenges.
No formal action was requested or taken on the staffing update; Kroll closed by offering to answer questions from supervisors.
