Planning department reports permits, inspections and a near-final comprehensive plan draft

Planning Director Ben Bottcher told the Board of Works on Jan. 13 that the Planning Department completed 55 building inspections and issued 36 permits since the department’s last report. Among the permits were two new single-family residential permits and several commercial permits, which staff said should yield higher commercial permit totals for 2024 compared with 2023.
Bottcher said the comprehensive plan consultant is drafting the final document and staff expects the plan to appear at the February or March Planning Commission meeting to begin the adoption process. On code enforcement, Bottcher said the department logged about 189 investigative activities and opened 35 new cases over the last three weeks, a caseload he said is substantially higher than 2023 levels.
Bottcher said final year-end permit and inspection numbers were not yet compiled and he will present those totals at the next meeting.
