Public Works reports four snow events, 486 tons of salt and a beaver-related pond issue

Public Works Director Scott Calvert told the Board of Works on Jan. 13 that the department responded to four snow events and used 486 tons of salt and roughly 486.5 man-hours on snow removal.
Calvert said crews replaced or repaired six street signs, used about four tons of cold patch for potholes, and began curbside Christmas tree pickup. Stormwater work included cleaning storm drains and repairing a storm drain at the southwest corner of John Bart Road and Morningside Drive; the department responded to 456 utility locates during the reporting period and assisted with snow removal.
Calvert noted staff training updates: the department provided good-housekeeping and spill-response training, and one staff member completed EPA construction-inspection training for MS4 roles; Calvert himself completed a certified professional municipal stormwater management credential.
Calvert said the department is coordinating with a developer and contractors to pump down a full pond at Auburn Meadows caused by beaver activity and has arranged for Boone County to provide a trapper to relocate the animals. He also noted the Boone County MS4 partners’ contractors workshop scheduled for Feb. 6.
Calvert said the department’s 2025 resurfacing program is under construction with DC Construction; the schedule must meet an Aug. 1 completion requirement for contracted work.
