A council member told colleagues they had reviewed the ordinance and did not see a legal need to change it. A representative for Heart of Lebanon reported having spoken with the police chief, who confirmed the existing ordinance could be used to remove bicycles left on the square.
Council members did not take formal action to revise the ordinance during the Jan. 13 meeting. The matter was reported as resolved for now because the bicycle was no longer at the rack.
Records from the meeting show the council raised the issue as new business and that staff and a local nonprofit contact communicated directly with the police chief about enforcement.
