The State Board of Chiropractic Examiners and several others were continued for four years where previously indicated; many boards were continued for two years with the geographic language added. For example, the chair announced that the motion to add geographic-diversity language and continue the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers for two years passed by voice vote. The committee also reconsidered and altered a small number of continuation periods in separate votes (for example, the Board of Dental Examiners' review period was changed from one to two years given a recent director change; the Board of Nursing's voluntary discipline program item was reconsidered and the board was continued for four years).
Where boards had specialty requirements that committee members said would conflict with district-based membership (for example, on-site wastewater boards where particular technical roles are needed), committee members exempted those boards from congressional-district membership requirements and instead left the specialty-driven composition intact.
Most motion outcomes were unanimous or by voice vote with no recorded roll call; where roll-call votes occurred the committee recorded the tallies on the record. Committee staff and sponsor members said they would draft specific statutory language for insertion where statutes lacked it and requested boards who cannot meet a diversity requirement to document their recruitment efforts and explain why a geographic or demographic slot could not be filled.
The committee also asked staff to check each draft before finalizing insertion language and to prepare motions for boards where the committee wants the diversity language specifically added.
