County staff told the committee that Measure R currently supports about 7.5 full-time-equivalent positions across departments, including roles in code enforcement, animal services, planning and the sheriff's office. Staff said most positions have been filled; the dispatcher position remained vacant and was in active recruitment with interviews being scheduled by human resources.
Members discussed that although funded positions are less visible than capital projects, they meaningfully affect county operations and service response. Committee members and staff also noted that wage-offsets included in the Measure R budget (previously 11% for many safety positions, 10% countywide, and 8% for corrections) have been adjusted through recent labor negotiations and are intended to improve recruitment and retention in a tight labor market.
Staff confirmed that the budget figures discussed earlier include the funded positions and wage adjustments. No formal committee action on staffing was taken at this meeting.
