District outlines levy forum schedule; Pierce County to administer special ballot measure

Board President Denise Hendrickson said the district held a Special Education parent advisory meeting and listed planned levy forums: at McKenna on the 13th, Mill Pond on the 16th, and later forums at Fort Stevens and Yale Middle School. She said more details will be posted in the district newsletter and the online packet.
Hendrickson explained why Pierce County is running the election: Thurston County is moving its tabulation center and would have been the sole special-ballot measure in that county, which would have required the district to absorb the full administrative cost. "Pierce County is gonna be running, I believe, Puyallup is running a ballot measure. So we get to share the cost and we're not the only school district," Hendrickson said. She added that staff have prepared information for voters in both Pierce and Thurston counties and that "nothing changes as far as what you do and where you can turn in your ballots."
The board said more detailed information about ballot language and voting procedures will be released in the district newsletter and on the district website. No changes to voter instructions or drop-off locations were announced at the meeting.
Board members did not take any additional action at the meeting on the levy beyond scheduling forums and directing communication to voters.
