Clover Park Board outlines timeline to fill District 4 seat after Anderson resignation

The Clover Park School District Board of Directors on Jan. 13 reviewed a timeline to fill the vacancy created when Director David Anderson submitted his resignation effective Jan. 6.

Under state rules the board has 90 days to fill the seat; the board’s timeline gives the district until April 6, 2025. The board recommended an application deadline of Feb. 12 at 4 p.m.; an optional candidate orientation on Feb. 18 at 5:30 p.m.; a community forum during the Parent Community Connector event on Feb. 19; candidate interviews at the Feb. 24 workshop; selection and announcement at the March 10 business meeting with a supporting resolution; and swearing in at the April 14 regular meeting at 6 p.m.

Why it matters: the appointed director will serve until the next scheduled election in the fall of 2025 (through December 2025). The board emphasized that the appointee must be a resident of District 4 (the Tillicum area and nearby lake-side neighborhoods), which the board said may constrain the applicant pool.

Board members discussed outreach plans to encourage a diverse applicant pool, including asking marketing and communications to distribute materials and community outreach through neighborhood organizations, faith groups and schools. The board suggested using consistent messaging from the district communications office and noted the Tillicum principal has been active connecting with families and could assist in outreach.

The board said if the panel is not ready to appoint on the planned date, it can postpone selection to a later meeting. No vacancies were filled at the Jan. 13 meeting; the timeline is a plan for the appointment process.
