Kings Local recognizes Mason‑Deerfield mural project and student artists

During the work session the board took time to recognize the Mason‑Deerfield Rotary, mural artist Jenna Hudson and Kings High School student Bree (Brie) Rees for their roles in creating a mural on a downtown Mason building.
Rotary president Jean Grama described the Mason Mile initiative to make Mason a mural city and said the Rotary issued an open call to artists. The Rotary selected Hudson’s design for its vibrancy and meaning, and Hudson described the mural’s layered heart motif representing community diversity. Grama said the Rotary partnered with local muralist David Dewey, who mentored two high‑school students through the fabrication and installation process.
Kings High School student Bree Rees spoke about working outdoors with spray paint in varying weather and said she valued the experience. Superintendent Sears praised the collaboration as an example of experiential learning and thanked the Rotary for partnering with the district. The board presented commemorative Kings flags to the mural contributors as a token of appreciation.
The mural includes an engraved plaque explaining the design and listing contributors’ names; Grama said the plaque will remain in place and the mural is intended as a long‑term legacy for the community.
