The Kings Local Board approved eight student field trips during the work session so school programs could finalize transportation and logistics. Superintendent Sears summarized the requests: the swim team is scheduled for the state championships in Canton in February; the dance team and cheer team are headed to nationals in Orlando in February; the wrestling team plans travel for state finals in March; and several music programs (referred to as the Firecrackers) have requests to attend events at Purdue University, the U.S. Naval Academy, Belmont University and Indiana University.
Sears asked the board to approve those trips so staff could continue with transportation contracts and other arrangements; the board voted by roll call to approve the group of field trips.
Assistant Superintendent of Educational Programs (Missus Martin) presented curriculum updates and a new online career‑planning guide for students. Martin said the district made small wording and prerequisite changes to some AP and honors courses, reworked the ceramics description, split zoology into two sections and updated AP Physics language to align more closely with college expectations. The career‑planning tool shows course pathways, dual‑credit opportunities and related extracurriculars; Martin said the tool will help students and families plan course sequences and that high school scheduling will take place in February.
Martin and staff also presented a three‑year Dell lease proposal for Chromebooks: the district issues Chromebooks to students entering fifth and ninth grades and recycles devices down to the elementary level. That leasing item was presented as a standard technology refresh and will be on the consent agenda for a vote at the next business meeting.
On the semiannual bullying report, Martin said the district received three reports in the last six months and one was substantiated; all were handled in the buildings and will be posted on the district website.
Board members asked clarifying questions and were invited to view the new online materials; several administrators credited staff who built the career planning pages and course links.
The board approved the field trips by roll call during the meeting; other items (Dell lease, course changes, wellness review) were presented for action at the next meeting or noted as reviews.
