EAC finalizes cost analysis to recommend Narberth EV charging rate to council

The Environmental Advisory Committee reviewed a spreadsheet analysis of electricity bills for the Narberth public EV charger and discussed a proposed at-cost rate near 17–18 cents per kilowatt-hour.
Committee member Joe reported the group calculated a raw figure around 17–18¢/kWh using October bill data and rounded to 18¢ for simplicity. The committee emphasized the goal of setting an at-cost rate to cover electricity and transaction fees rather than adding a private profit margin. Members noted that fast, commercial chargers can cost more per kWh for convenience and higher service levels, but the borough’s goal is cost recovery.
The committee agreed to prepare a short memo summarizing the calculation, the recommended rate and the assumptions used, and to send it to Jean (council liaison and chair of the Public Health & Safety committee) and Maggie (council member) so the council committee can discuss and, if desired, schedule a vote. Committee members said the memo should explain how the rate was calculated and include cost components so the council can decide whether to accept a change.
No formal vote to set the rate was held at the meeting; members treated the memo and referral to the Public Health & Safety committee as the next step.
