Temple ISD honors students, staff and a Merchant Marine Academy appointee; introduces new assistant principal

At its Jan. 13 meeting Temple ISD accepted a $65,938.10 BuyBoard rebate, recognized robotics teams that qualified for state competition, celebrated Keegan Dunn's appointment to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and introduced Allison Bennett as a new assistant principal at Temple High School.
Temple ISD leaders used the Jan. 13 Board of Trustees meeting to present several recognitions and personnel introductions, including a BuyBoard rebate check, robotics-team honors, a federal academy appointment and a new assistant principal.
Finance and operations staff accepted a $65,938.10 rebate from TASB BuyBoard for purchases made by the district. Administrators praised the purchasing department's work to ensure compliance and maximize rebates; Mark Foley, identified as representing the purchasing team, was singled out for recognition.
The board recognized two robotics programs that qualified for the state BEST robotics competition. The Travis Science Academy "Lunar Mustangs" qualified as the only middle-school team from their meet to advance to state and won awards including team recognition and engineering-drawings honors; coach Mary Brown was recognized. The Temple High School "Wildcat Workforce" robotics team also qualified for state and earned workmanship-related awards; the high school team and its coach were acknowledged.
Temple High senior Keegan Dunn received formal recognition for an appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y. The board noted nominations from U.S. Rep. John Carter and U.S. Sen. John Cornyn; district speakers read a message from Rep. Carter's office and described the academy's program and benefits, including the multi-year sea-trimester requirement and an estimated four-year scholarship value of about $300,000.
The board introduced Allison Bennett as the new assistant principal at Temple High School and summarized her background in dance education, special education, ELA instruction and prior assistant-principal experience. The board also recognized January as School Board Recognition Month and highlighted the district's opening of Sampson Howard Elementary in fall 2024.
