The Temple ISD Board of Trustees approved the district's 2025'26 professional calendar during its Jan. 13, 2025, meeting, with a motion by Trustee Ms. Gallant and a second by Trustee Ms. Davis. The board voted in favor; the motion carried.
The calendar sets the first day of school for Aug. 19, 2025, and the last day for May 28, 2026. The district added a day to new-teacher orientation and builds three district professional development days into the schedule. Dr. Ward, who presented the calendar to the board, said the changes respond to teacher requests for more time to train on district systems.
Board members and district staff said the added orientation day will allow new teachers more time with Skyward and Red Rover and allow deeper familiarization with online instructional tools. Dr. Ward told the board, "Our first day of school is August 19, and our last day of school is May 28." She said the calendar reflects 168 instructional days and a total of 77,640 minutes, with roughly 4.4 days of built-in weather contingency.
District staff explained that one additional workday was scheduled in October to give teachers a mid-fall planning break and that spring break will align with Temple College from March 16'20, 2026. The board approved the item as presented.
Votes at the meeting on the calendar were recorded as a board motion by Ms. Gallant, seconded by Ms. Davis; the chair called for "ayes," and the motion passed.
