The administration said the new system will install tablets on every bus enabling students to swipe on and off, allow transportation staff to push routes more efficiently, provide drivers with turn-by-turn directions and offer parents live updates with estimated times of arrival. The district presented the initiative as part of the September budget priorities and provided an informational report at the prior board meeting.
During the meeting, transportation staff said the new system will improve office efficiency, driver guidance and parent communication. In response to a board question, the presenting staff member said the upgrade "makes the office staff happy because they're gonna be able to do their job so much more efficiently, which will ultimately get the kids to school, . . . and have the parents better informed." (presenter identified in the record as Mr. Richards.)
The board voted to approve the contract as presented, pending final attorney review.
