Uinta County reports early success for Small Business Micro Grant; nine projects approved

Travis Campbell, economic development coordinator for Uinta County, told the Board of County Commissioners on Jan. 14 that the county—s Small Business Micro Grant, launched last fall, has approved nine applications and reimbursed several completed projects.

Campbell said the program offers 50% reimbursement up to $5,000 per project and is administered through the county Economic Development Office. "The grant will provide a 50% reimbursement up to $5,000 for a project," Campbell said. He described the grant as targeted at existing local businesses with a county business license and an employer identification number, and said any type of business expense that fosters growth could qualify, including equipment, software, technology or facility remodels.

The county received $57,500 for the program in 2024 and supplemented that with about $34,000 from a 2025 rural county grant, Campbell said. He reported the review committee has encumbered a little over $38,000 in grant funds across nine approved projects; those projects have generated more than $130,000 in total local investment, which the county characterized as roughly 41% of the projects— combined cost.

Campbell said the grant is post-performance (a reimbursement): applicants must be approved by a review committee that includes county and municipal representatives, complete the project, and then apply for reimbursement. He added that businesses may apply only once in a 12-month period.

Commissioners praised the program. One commissioner said, "I've worked a lot with Travis on this, and it is a great addition to our community," and another noted willingness to support private enterprise through the program.
