Burleson ISD board approves $7.36 million guaranteed maximum price for Mound Elementary gym; several procedural measures passed

Brian Parma of Jackson Construction summarized the recommendation: “What we are bringing to you tonight for a GMP recommendation is the $7,356,604.” The district previously procured long-lead electrical equipment in 2022 that will be used for the project and that procurement cost $431,000, staff said.
Why it matters: Mound Elementary did not have a conventional indoor gym with a permanent court; the new facility is designed to serve as both a full gym and a storm shelter for the school’s occupancy. District staff and project architects said design adjustments reduced the amount of glass to meet shelter requirements while keeping the building’s planned architectural expression and material palette to match the existing campus.
Staff and contractors described remaining scope items and owner-held allowances that are excluded from the GMP (data cabling, audio-visual, intercom and security work will be completed by the district). Plueger Architects noted that the project maintains a secure indoor connection between the existing school and the new gym/storm shelter.
