Covington County holds informational public hearing on 2026 CATS budget

Covington County Commissioners on Jan. 14 held a scheduled public hearing to receive information about the 2026 CATS budget.
Tammy, a county staff member, told commissioners that state-level policy changes expected this year require the county to draft a 2026 budget now even though the details remain uncertain. "This year is the year that governor Abby is to sign off on a lot of new, updated policy procedures," Tammy said, and added that, because of remaining uncertainty, she applied a "3% increase as a guessing" when preparing the draft. "We don't know. We haven't made it halfway through '25," she said.
The presentation was informational only; commissioners indicated the budget will be considered for approval at a later date. Tammy said staff provided the draft figures for review and offered to answer questions as the commission prepares a formal vote at a subsequent meeting.
No formal motions or votes on the CATS budget were recorded during the hearing.
