Weber County commissioners approve appointments, contracts and $4.8 million in warrants

The Weber County Commission on Jan. 14 approved a slate of appointments to local special-district boards, renewed contracts for indigent defense and grant services, and authorized roughly $4.8 million in warrants and purchase orders.

The actions, taken during a regularly scheduled meeting in Ogden, included reappointments to the Weber Area Dispatch 911 administrative control board, trustee appointments to the Powder Mountain Water and Sewer Improvement District and multiple contract renewals listed on the agenda.

The meeting’s consent calendar, approved by the commission, certified purchase orders totaling $426,654.02 and warrants numbered across several series that combined to $4,823,908.97, plus an ACH payment to Zions Bank of $308,893.92. County staff member Ricky Hatch summarized the week’s purchases and payments, saying the county issued 31 purchase orders this week for about $427,000 and 226 checks totaling about $4.8 million. "43% of that amount or $185,000 is for our roads department to purchase salt, plow and grater blades as well as parts and servicing," Hatch said. He added that about $176,000 was for the transfer station and approximately $150,000 for IT renewals and services.

Commission appointments and contracts

The commission approved the annual designation to the Utah Association of Counties board of directors, with the commission chair reappointed to serve as the county’s representative. The commission also approved multiple county contracts listed on the agenda, including renewals for court-appointed counsel; the agenda listed individual attorneys whose contracts were renewed.

Powder Mountain and dispatch boards

The commission reappointed two incumbents and a mayor to the Weber Area Dispatch 911 board as recommended by the Weber County Area Council of Governments and appointed three trustees to the Powder Mountain Water and Sewer Improvement District from a pool of four applicants. The commission voted by roll call on those resolutions; each motion carried.

Administrative and procedural notes

Staff told commissioners that a Staker Parson contract change order for a 12th Street project (Phase 4) and other consent items were on the agenda. The meeting closed after a motion to adjourn that passed unanimously.

The meeting included a brief commissioners’ comment period. Commissioner Jim Harvey recalled Weber County’s early involvement in a military recreation lodging project that later became a larger publicly partnered resort development in the Deer Valley area, noting it began with a seven-room cabin at Snowbasin and is now a substantially larger facility reserved in part for military personnel.

Commissioners did not indicate any further agenda items for follow-up at the Jan. 14 session and adjourned after the unanimous votes.
