Tonganoxie Success Center reports 10 fall graduates; spring enrollment growing

According to the report, 10 students completed the Success Center program and had the option to continue to earn the district’s 28‑credit graduation requirement or accept a 21‑credit diploma provided under the state program.
The presenter said the fall cohort of 10 students and nine active students completed 147 classes for a combined 73.5 credits. The program had only two discipline incidents during the semester, both related to vape pens. The Success Center started the spring semester with 11 students and the presenter said enrollment typically grows in the spring.
Under state rules described at the meeting, the Success Center’s diploma option requires 21 credits to receive a diploma, but students must earn 28 credits through the high school program to participate in the district’s graduation ceremony. The board speaker called the fall results “huge,” saying the program helped students at risk of dropping out earn diplomas or continue toward graduation.
No board action was taken; the update was informational and the board expressed support for continued work on the program.
