Hunt County approves routine finances, school resource officer agreement, radio contract and multiple subdivision plans

- Consent and fiscal items: The court approved the consent calendar, accounts payable, line-item transfers, budget amendments and payroll and personnel matters by voice votes.
- Boys & Girls Club quarterly report: Brenda Thomas (Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Texas) and Wanisha Stevens (club director, Greenville) presented the club’s Smart Moves Emotional Wellness program, which county staff accepted as the quarterly report. The presenters described social-emotional learning work, partnerships and a youth spotlight.
- School Resource Officer for Wolf City: The court approved an agreement to provide a sheriff’s office resource officer to Wolf City ISD. County staff said the state requires school resource officers but provides no funding; the local arrangement shares costs between the county and the small taxing entity. The sheriff’s office described moving an existing position to provide coverage.
- NEATEX Railroad representative travel: The court authorized Precinct 1 Commissioner Mark Hutchins to travel out of state as Hunt County’s NEATEX board representative to meet with railroad officials and Union Pacific about track repairs and funding assistance for the 65-mile nonprofit short-line railroad that serves the county industrial park.
- P25 radio system work: Commissioners approved additional communications work to finish the final implementation, testing and acceptance phases of the county’s P25 radio system so partner fire departments and cities can be brought online.
- Professional services and civil plans: The court approved a professional services agreement with Freese and Nichols to evaluate acceptance issues for subdivisions and to help secure developer bonds for road maintenance. The court also approved civil plans for Briar Branch Estates phases 2 and 3 and accepted a replatted Lot 2 of Meadowlark Estates after a public hearing. Multiple requests to construct electrical distribution facilities in county rights of way (County Roads 22100, 2250 and 3115) were approved under standard stipulations.
Public process and votes: Most items were approved by motion, second and unanimous voice vote. The court briefly entered and exited executive session (meeting minutes record an executive session beginning at 10:37 a.m. and returning to open session at 10:50 a.m.). The court adjourned at 10:51 a.m.
What’s next: Staff will proceed with steps identified in each agreement — for example, the sheriff’s office will implement the Wolf City SRO schedule and county engineering will work with Freese and Nichols and developers to complete inspections and acceptance requirements for the approved subdivisions.
