Cowlitz County Public Works told commissioners Jan. 13 that the department will purchase 10 portable litter fences from Coastal Netting Systems for a total of $71,512.80 to reduce wind‑blown debris at the county landfill.
Public Works’ Sean Roey said the fences measure roughly 24 feet wide by 15 feet high, use a wire mesh to collect debris and are intended to be used together; staff expects most or all of the units to be deployed at once. The fences are not permanently anchored to the ground; Roey said operators will use a dozer to dislodge stuck material and then place the panels back in position. Staff estimated a roughly 10‑year service life for the netting, with the frames expected to last longer if not damaged by equipment.
County commissioners asked operational questions about anchoring and lifespan. Staff said they received four bids and recommended the low responsive bidder, Coastal Netting Systems. The board approved the purchase by voice vote.
