Board approves consent agenda, schedules calendar workshop and votes to enter executive session on superintendent vacancy

The Fond du Lac Board of Education on Jan. 13 approved its consent agenda, agreed to a workshop on the 2025–26 school calendar and subsequently voted to move into an executive session to discuss employee discipline and the superintendent vacancy.

The consent agenda — covering minutes from prior meetings, personnel recommendations, bimonthly financial reports, issuance of administrative contracts and the superintendent retirement item for administrative processing — was moved by Mr. Godfrey and seconded by Mr. Lambert. A roll-call vote recorded all seven members voting yes; the motion carried 7–0.

After the consent vote, the board adjourned into a scheduled workshop on the 2025–26 calendar. District administrators Justin Steinbarth and Mike Marion led the calendar presentation and said the draft follows prior years’ patterns, aligns staff feedback, starts after Labor Day and seeks to end in June. Staff engagement included two listening sessions and feedback through the superintendent’s advisory committee. No final vote on the calendar was taken; administrators said they will return to the board for approval at a later meeting.

Later in the evening the board moved to adjourn from the workshop into an executive session to discuss “employee discipline, superintendent vacancy” under Wisconsin Statute §19.85(1)(c). The motion to enter executive session was moved by Mr. Henschel, seconded by Mr. Godfrey, and passed 7–0 on a roll-call vote. The minutes record the board adjourning the workshop at 6:11 p.m. and planning to return after the executive session. The statute cited authorizes closed sessions for considering employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of public employees.
