Nordonia Schools Foundation outlines grants, scholarships and new programs as it marks 30 years

JoLynn McPharron, executive director of the Nordonia Schools Foundation, updated the board on the foundation’s programs, fundraising and upcoming grant cycles as the nonprofit enters its 30th year.
McPharron said the foundation, chartered in 1995, is a 501(c)(3) funded by an annual charity golf outing, personal donations and investment income. She described recurring programs the foundation supports — including DNA Day at Nordonia High School, the one-school-one-book project at Northfield Elementary, the superintendent’s dinner, and $1,500-and-up scholarships for graduating seniors managed on behalf of donors. The foundation also awards mini-grants in spring and fall for staff projects and has added “traveling nights” and “local experience funds” to help students who need assistance to attend overnight educational trips.
McPharron named current trustees and building ambassadors who attend monthly foundation meetings and thanked board members and administrators who participate. She said the next mini-grant round for staff opens on Jan. 17 and encouraged staff and trustees to consult the foundation’s website for details.
