Brazos County veteran service officer reports increased client assistance, steady monthly disability payments

Robinson said Brazos County’s veteran population is about 9,327 and that the county’s veteran-service office served 4,849 veterans during 2024. The office filed 792 claims in 2024 and reported monthly disability payments assisted veterans in the community; Robinson said the office’s work helped channel approximately $976,115.34 in monthly disability payments to veterans who used the office’s services.
Robinson described partnerships and services developed in 2024: a part‑time veterans service officer on the Texas A&M campus (20 hours per week), collaboration with the Brazos Valley Independent Living (BVCIL) for veteran express vans sponsored by Keating Enterprises, coordination with Goodwill’s Bryan College Station Community Connect and participation in programs such as Wreaths Across America and Rebuilding America/Habitat for Humanity projects to help veterans with housing repairs.
Upcoming events Robinson listed included a veterans resource fair and claims clinic at the Brazos Center on Monday, Feb. 17, and a Veterans Day appreciation event in November. Commissioners praised the office’s outreach and its role in securing back payments and ongoing monthly benefits for veterans; no action items or votes were attached to the presentation.
