Board members raised safety and security reasons for lighting. One member referenced a prior meeting with the chief of police and noted lighting can reduce dangerous activity in parks. "The more lit up it is... the more people are gonna do so," a board member said, referencing earlier police comments about darker parks. Members requested staff coordinate with Troy, the electronics maintenance supervisor, and camera placement so lighting is directional and supports surveillance cameras.
Staff cautioned that installation cost will depend on where power can be sourced and how much trenching is required. The board asked staff to consult Troy and produce a plan and cost estimate for consideration at the next meeting. There was no formal vote; the item was discussed and staff were asked to report back.
Board members also asked staff to evaluate LED fixtures and the feasibility of running power to four corners of the play and court areas, noting modern LED options reduce required power but trenching and meter placement remain significant cost drivers.
