Parks board votes to proceed with January meeting despite absent member

The motion, introduced when the roll showed one excused absence, asked the board to complete routine business at this meeting and delay election of board officers until the Feb. 10 meeting when board member David Pierce was expected to return. "I'd like to make a motion to allow me to have this meeting, just to make sure we're square on that. And then February's meeting with David back, then we would vote in officers," said Matthew Armbruster.
Board members discussed the etiquette of voting in officers when a member is absent. Some members said they preferred waiting for Pierce to be present so he could participate; others said it is customary that an absent member may be voted in. The procedural decision allowed the board to continue presenting updates and discussing park projects at the Jan. 13 session.
No formal roll-call vote or tally was recorded in the transcript; the motion was seconded and carried by voice. The board plans to hold officer elections at its February meeting when the absent member is expected to attend.
