Enrollment and awards: Dr. Libby reported 195 students enrolled in pre-kindergarten, an increase of seven from the previous month. He also said a $5,000 donation from Tata Chemical was awarded to the district’s Tigers for Literacy program.
Safety and school recognition: Libby said the district received a letter from OSHA recognizing facility and grounds work as proactive in employee safety. He also announced that Eastside Elementary has been certified as a School of Kindness by a national registry and the district has placed the logo on the registry.
Facilities and athletics: Libby described a recent facilities effort to prepare a room for the girls wrestling program at the high school. After communication gaps slowed progress, the district pulled a crew from work at Desert View to install mats, wall padding and new lighting, and to do roof panel work; painting is planned and Libby said the room should be ready before the end of the week. He credited student Sarah Eddie for raising the issue and Mr. Celeroni and his crew for completing the work.
Donations and recognitions: The board also acknowledged a $500 donation from Clara Di Bertolli in memory of Maria Di Bertolli to the student lunch account; Libby said that $500 would provide $25 each for 20 students. The meeting included multiple staff and student recognitions but no policy actions tied to those recognitions.
Library checkout notifications: Later in the meeting, Dr. Libby updated the board on efforts to increase parent awareness of library checkouts. The district will pilot emailed notices to parents when students check out books, including the title, to encourage family conversations about reading material and to reduce surprises at the end of the year when items are returned.
