Resident thanks commissioners and staff for YMCA groundbreaking

Marcia Greenberg used her public comment time at the St. Mary’s County Commissioners meeting to thank commissioners and county staff for a YMCA project whose groundbreaking she said took place Nov. 12 after seven years of effort.
“I just wanna express my appreciation to all of the commissioners, to county administrator David Weiskopf, to Jenna Guzman, to John Hauser, to Amy Carter back there, to Diane Gleisner, and to everybody else who has worked with us over the course of the last 7 years to get to the point where the groundbreaking has taken place,” she said. Greenberg said the facility will provide indoor spaces for activities such as volleyball and basketball that currently are not available locally.
Greenberg said community members regularly tell her they are “amazed” the project is moving forward and said the YMCA will serve “young people, families, [and] seniors.” She asked the commissioners to note community enthusiasm and said she looks forward to a ribbon-cutting.
