Waxahachie ISD reports gains in AP enrollment and outlines college‑readiness framework

“We are looking to, make sure every graduate is college, career, and military ready and that we are increasing the CCMR numbers year over year,” Miss Abidi said, summarizing the district’s strategy to publish and sustain a districtwide college‑readiness framework and to use it across family events and counseling.

- College‑readiness framework and family engagement: The framework is in use at family events and is being shared with counselors in grades 6–12. The district plans “coffee and chat” and lunch‑and‑learn sessions to expand family engagement.
- AP and dual‑credit growth: At Waxahachie High School, AP-seat enrollment increased from 1,241 student seats (2022–23) to 1,818 seats; the number of AP exams taken rose from 592 to 970. The district reported an increase in top AP scores (level 5) from 26 to 45, and noted 66 AP exams across the district received a 5 last spring. The district celebrated students and teachers at an August AP recognition event.
- Dual credit and TSI: Waxahachie High School reported 567 dual‑credit seats. Global High School showed a decline in dual‑credit seats; presenters attributed that partly to campus admissions practices and rising TSI test rigor. The district said it received an Effective Advising Framework grant and will use grant funds and staff to support TSI preparation.
- Acceleration and GT services: The district expanded pre‑AP algebra I seats to Coleman, Finley and Howard junior highs and continues elementary math telescoping and junior‑high acceleration pathways. Eight elementary students passed a credit‑by‑exam at 80% or greater and skipped a grade level in math; of 158 students who entered phase‑2 testing, 113 completed it with a 40% success metric and were placed in GT cluster classrooms.
Questions from board members included whether the presentation would include military readiness numbers and a request to continue parts of the report at the February meeting; staff agreed to follow up and continue the report at the next meeting.
Miss Abidi and district staff noted the district will report spring exam outcomes once testing is complete.
