City Manager announced that Lieutenant Brian Morrison has been selected as the city’s candidate for chief of police, pending council approval of an employment agreement. The manager said the agreement will return to council for consideration on Feb. 10; Interim Chief Ted Stack’s last day will be the effective transition date if the agreement is approved.
“Lieutenant Morrison has more than 26 years of police experience,” the city manager said, and noted Morrison has served with the Auburn Police Department for about eight and a half years.
On tax administration, staff said Auburn is contracting with HDL Companies to identify, register and assist with collection and enforcement of a newly adopted occupancy tax for short‑term rentals (Measure F). Staff said the contract will put technical collection and compliance responsibilities with a vendor experienced in municipal tax administration.
Fire Chief John Rogers reported that Auburn sent a type‑1 engine and a Placer County strike team to assist with a Southern California wildfire. Chief Rogers named three personnel assigned to the engine and said the team has completed operational periods in support of mutual‑aid efforts. The city noted the department remains staffed locally while some personnel are deployed.
City staff also summarized year‑end DUI arrest statistics for Auburn Police: for the most recent month (December) the department reported 11 DUI arrests; the year‑to‑date total reported was 126 DUI arrests, including 15 drug‑related DUIs.
