Beach Park CCSD 3 staff on Tuesday urged the board to approve an intergovernmental agreement with ISB that would let the district participate in a VIT program to recruit and interview international and multilingual teachers for the district's dual-language program.
In a superintendent's report, district staff described the VIT program as a collaborative pathway with ISB to identify and interview multilingual candidates and asked the board to “vote yes for this partnership for us to fully staff our dual language program for the years,” according to meeting remarks.
The superintendent also announced the district's multicultural festival will be March 15, 2025, at Hitchcock Middle School from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and reminded the community the district will be closed Monday, Jan. 20, for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The superintendent and board members discussed forming a board policy committee to review press policies and planned to begin community engagement on that committee at the start of the next school year.
The superintendent briefed the board on additional items including enrollment and residency requirements for tuition, a larger discussion on insurance, asbestos abatement work, and the monthly finance bills. The superintendent summarized that the district reviewed bids and that administration discussed timelines for projects and insurance updates.
Board members placed a resolution in support of “Vision 2030” on the agenda. Meeting remarks described the three pillars of Vision 2030 as “future focused, shared accountability, and predictable funding” and said the board's resolution would signal support for state-level strategic planning that encourages lawmakers to meet those pillars.
During the session the board approved the consent agenda. The record shows motions were made during the meeting for the intergovernmental agreement with ISB and for the Vision 2030 resolution; the transcript does not clearly record the final vote outcome for those two items.
The meeting returned to open session after a closed session and then adjourned.
