Council pauses Belshazzar Street project, asks for traffic data and circulation plan

Council members and residents raised concerns that Belshazzar Street currently serves as a through-route for heavy vehicles including dump trucks, farm equipment and construction traffic. Several councilmembers said rerouting such traffic to nearby streets would be impractical without a detailed study. The village engineer confirmed that surveying is complete but that geotechnical reporting is still pending; she said the project’s bid schedule can be adjusted and that delaying design until council provides direction will not prevent the project from being rebid when ready.
The fire chief and other staff provided traffic-count data to the council during the discussion; council asked staff to produce a visual plan (map) showing proposed changes, connectivity options and traffic counts for presentation at the next Committee-of-the-Whole. No votes or funding decisions were taken on Belshazzar Street at this meeting.
