Putnam County reviews multiple code-enforcement cases; three extended or tabled and one dismissed

Putnam County’s code-enforcement division reported on four ‘‘day cases’’ during the Jan. 14 commission meeting; commissioners voted to table or extend three cases and dismiss one.
Jordan Chapman, the county’s code-enforcement officer, opened with case 2024-07 at 2042 North Poplar Fork Road in Hurricane, saying, “in the most recent photos taken on January 10th, you can see, that no progress has been made toward compliance.” The landowner asked by email to table the case until the Jan. 28 meeting. Commissioners agreed to table case 2024-07 until Jan. 28 by motion, second and unanimous voice vote.
Case 2024-21 at 47 5th Avenue North in Hometown showed some vegetation maintenance and removal of items from a porch, but Chapman said overall conditions remained similar in photos taken Jan. 10. The commission granted a 90-day extension to review further progress; the motion carried unanimously.
Case 2024-18 at 3470 C Tays Valley Road in Hurricane was presented with the landowner, Nicolette Johnson, speaking to the commission. Johnson said she had “taken probably 7 trailer loads of stuff out there” and described personal and seasonal constraints. Commissioners expressed sympathy and approved a 90-day extension, encouraging continued progress and inviting the owner to submit updated photos to staff.
Case 2024-32 at 3 Lee Circle in Hurricane concerned a hazardous addition at the rear of the house. Chapman reported that photos received the previous day showed the hazardous structure removed; the commission voted to dismiss case 2024-32.
Throughout the item staff clarified that the 60-day compliance periods had ended for several cases and that extensions were being granted to allow work during more favorable weather. Commissioners recorded motions and unanimous voice votes on each action and asked that owners provide updated photos to staff when available.
