Resident asks Mount Pleasant board to place unresolved Little Timber Drive drainage issues on agenda

Mary Baker, a Mount Pleasant resident, asked the village board on Jan. 13 to be added to a future agenda to present unresolved problems from a Little Timber Drive construction project that began two summers ago.

Baker told the board she and her neighbors have “a lot and lot and lot of issues” with the project and that efforts to resolve them through Public Works have not been successful. She asked to be scheduled for a March or April meeting because she will be out of the country in February.

Board members discussed the appropriate procedural path. Trustees said the neighborhood had already taken the issue to Public Works and that options discussed with staff included curb-and-gutter reconstruction—estimated in board discussion at roughly $45,000 per household in one scenario—or re-ditching the neighborhood to restore original drainage profiles. Trustee comments emphasized that any neighborhood-wide curb-and-gutter option would need broad buy-in because of likely cost to homeowners.

One trustee urged two trustees to meet with Baker and her neighbors and recommended bringing the matter to the committee of the whole so staff and residents could present information and possible remedies in public. Board members cautioned about email discussions and open-meeting rules and said they would try to identify the correct committee venue and next steps for scheduling the resident’s formal presentation.

The board did not vote on the matter; trustees agreed to follow up to determine an appropriate agenda and to coordinate further conversation with Public Works and the village attorney.
